MANCHESTER, Dec. 2 -- Shelton's Joe Czarnecki rushed 33 times for 199 yards and three touchdowns as No. 3 Shelton defeated No. 2 East Catholic at Manchester High School. Defensive back Jeff Norko set the tone for Shelton when he returned an interception 67 yards for a touchdown on the fifth play of the game. Czarnecki scored on runs of 13, 24 and 1 yards as Shelton finished with 247 yards on 45 carries. Dahna Deleston (4 yard run) and Dan Belli's 5-yard pass to Bryan Williston accounted for East's touchdowns. East, which rushed 30 times for 108 yards, was paced by Joe Hartigan's 75 yards on 11 carries.

Class M semifinals
ENFIELD, Dec. 2 -- Angelo Ortiz went 79-yards on a screen pass early in the fourth quarter to lift No. 4 Ledyard over No. 1 Enfield. Ortiz had four catches for 112 yards passing and also added 95 yardsz rushing for Ledyard (9-2). Enfield dominated action in the first half getting inside the Ledyard 20-yard line four times. But Enfield couldn't take advanatge. The lone Enfield touchdown of the half came on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Pat Jubrey to Knut Finnevolden with a second remaining in the half. Mike Pinto led Enfield with 134 yards rushing while Jubrey completed 11-of-22 passes for 114 yards.

Week 11
NEW BRITAIN, Nov. 27 -- Sophomore tailback Antonio Inglis ran for 174 yards and a score on just 15 carries and quarterback Todd Manjuck, a junior, ran for 91 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown gallop to lead Vinal Tech at Willow Brook Park. Vinal rushed 368 yards on the ground on 52 attempts and finished with its first winning season (6-4-1) and the most wins in the program's four-year varsity history.

MIDDLETOWN, Nov. 27 -- Sophomore Amari Spievey rushed for 197 yards on 17 carries, caught two passes for 48 yards and scored 4 TDs to lead the Falcons at Palmer Field. He rushed for 3 TDs, caught a TD pass and threw a 19-yard TD pass on a halfback option. "Spievey is a once in a lifetime kind of back," Middletown coach Eric Marszalek told The Middletown Press. "He's that good. We knew we'd have to defend him, but we couldn't do it. Not only is he very good, Xavier's offensive line did a nice job of opening up holes for him. In the end, Xavier was just better than us."

Enfield 28, Fermi 0
ENFIELD, Nov. 27 -- Enfield (10-1) clinched the top seed in the Class M playoffs with a dominating victory over cross-town rival Fermi (1-10). It is the first CIAC playoff berth in school history for the team. "We've never been in this position before. Finally, we can put Enfield football on the map," Raiders coach Jay Gaucher told the Hartford Courant. "Everyone says we play a weaker schedule. We believe our defense can play with anyone in the state." Enfield allowed 9.36 points per game this year. Enfield scored on its first two possessions to seize control immediately.  Jeremy Kauffman punched it in from the 2-yard line to cap an eight-play, 77-yard drive. Nick Dugan's fumble recovery at the Fermi 22 led to a five-play drive, finished by Knut Finnevolden's 14-yard reception at the top of the end zone from junior QB Pat Jubrey (12-of-17, 133 yards).

Enfield 21, Middletown 16
ENFIELD, Nov. 22 -- The Raiders (9-1) won their eighth straight game as Mike Pinto rushed for 139 yards and 1 TD. Linebacker Mike Anagnostou had 11 tackles and two interceptions for Enfield, which received 66 yards in rishing and a 29-TD run from Jeremy Kauffman.

East Catholic 27, Berlin 7
BERLIN, Nov. 21 -- The Eagles (11-0, 9-0 Nutmeg) clinched their first Nutmeg Football League championship with a win over the Redcoats at Sage Park and clinched a berth in the Class L playoffs. Dan Belli (12-105) had a pair of touchdowns for East Catholic in the first quarter. Berlin was held to just 15 yards of offense in the first half.

BRISTOL, Nov. 21 -- Mark Fritz's 3-yard run and extra point from Chris Tyler in the fourth quarter helped Rocky Hill (4-6-1) battle to a tie with St. Paul/Goodwin Tech (3-6-1) at Muzzy Field in a non-league game. Fritz finished with 2 touchdowns on the day. Tyler missed a 37-yard field goal with three seconds left that would have won the game. It bounced off the crossbar.

Week 10
FARMINGTON, Nov. 14 -- Farmington won its fourth straight game and its six in the last seven outings on Senior Night. FHS scored two touchdowns in the final 3:03 of the contest to break open a four-point contest. Plainville (2-8, 1-7 Nutmeg) led at halftime by a 6-3 score thanks to an 88-yard interception return by Dustin Chasse with 18 seconds left in the second quarter. The Blue Devils turned the ball over six times, twice on interceptions and four times on fumbles.

ROCKY HILL, Nov. 14 -- With QB Eric Fritz calling almost every play, Rocky Hill scored six times in the first half in a Senior Night victory over the Sports and Medical Sciences Academy on Friday night. Fritz threw four touchdowns to senior receiver Jeff Courneen in the first half, including three in the final three minutes of the first quarter. Chris Tyler added a 39-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for the Terriers.

MIDDLETOWN, Nov. 14 -- East Catholic/Cheney Tech moved within one win of a perfect regular season with a victory over the Hawks. East Catholic led 28-0 at halftime and had 328 yards off offense in the first half. Dahna Deleston ran for 112 yards on 12 carries and a TD. Joe Hartigan scored a pair of TDs.

MIDDLETOWN, Nov. 15 --The Dragons exploded for 26 points in the second half to outlast St. Paul/Goodwin Tech.

BERLIN, Nov. 15  -- Joel Hartunian had a 71-yard TD run for the home team but that was it as Enfield prevailed. Pat Jubrey ran for a 30 yard TD and threw a 23-yard TD pass to Mike Dalenta.

Week 9
WEST HARTFORD, Nov. 8 -- Rocky Hill forced five turnovers and used some big plays to snap a two-game losing streak and beat Northwest Catholic for the first time. Junior defensive end Chris Cozza had a game-high three sacks for 21 yards and blocked an attempted extra point. Perhaps his biggest play was tipping a pass from NWC's freshman QB Mike Bourdon into the hands of teammate Mark Fritz, who ran back the interception 60 yards for a touchdown. Fritz's run, the second-longest interception return for a TD in school history, iced the contest, giving Rocky Hill (3-5, 3-5) a 21-6 lead with 5:49 left in the game.

BRISTOL, Nov. 8 -- Farmington's Nick Bliss scored four TDs and rushed for 165 yards as the Indians shutout St. Paul Saturday afternoon at Muzzy Field. His longest TD run was a 53-yard scamper in the third quarter.

MIDDLETOWN, Nov. 8 -- Dhana Deleston ran for 194 yards and two touchdowns, Joe Hartigan added two more scores, and quarterback Dan Belli threw a TD pass to Bryan Williston for another as East Catholic/Cheney Tech dominated Middletown. "With as many skill players as they have -- Deleston, Williston, Hartigan -- that's probably the best combination of skill players this league has seen since Berlin when [Maurice] Humphrey was a sophomore [2000]," Middletown coach Eric Marszalek told The Herald Press.

BERLIN, Nov. 7 -- Strong running from Chris Laroche and Joel Hartunian helped Berlin snap a two-game losing streak. "We just ran the ball at them," Berlin coach Al Pelligrinelli told The New Britain Herald of the game's crucial drive. "We were up 19-7, and thought we had a little bit of breathing room. They came up, scored, and the momentum is shifted their way. And you had to do something to answer that." Hartunian rushed for 2 TDs, 90 yards on 12 carries.

Week 8
ROCKY HILL, Oct. 31 -- Pat Jubrey threw a pair of TD passes as Enfield held off pesky Rocky Hill on Halloween night. Jeff Courneen (11 receptions, 150 yards) caught a 30 TD pass from Eric Fritz with 1:40 left in regulation to tighten up the game. Rocky Hill recovered the onside kick at the Raider 38-yard line but Enfield (7-1) intercepted its fourth pass of the game to seal the win.

BERLIN, Nov. 1 -- Sean Gerhart provided some more fourth quarter magic for Farmington Saturday afternoon at Sage Park, returning a punt 70 yards as the Indians beat Berlin for the first time since 1999. Farmington has won four of its last five games while Berlin dropped its third straight. Twice, Berlin, which was missing seven starters, rallied from deficits of 14 points. Berlin's Joel Hartunian intercepted his 23rd career pass and scored 2 TDs, one on a 37-yard punt return.

Middletown 44, N.W. Catholic 30
WEST HARTFORD, Nov. 1 -- Jashone Cunningham scored 3 TDs and rushed for 114 yards as Middletown beat the Indians. Middletown led 37-0 and 44-8 before NWC scored three times in the final 12 minutes. Cunningham scored his first TD on a 69-yard scamper.

MANCHESTER, Nov. 1 -- Joe Hartigan rushed for 3 TDs and Bryan Williston had a 60-yard punt return to lead the undefeated Eagles (8-0).

Vinal Tech 34, Wright Tech 0
STAMFORD, Nov. 1 -- Five different players scored as Vinal Tech/Coginchaug shutout Wright Tech-Stamford. Todd Manjuck scored on a 50-yard run for the Hawks (4-3-1), who won for the second week in a row. 

Week 7
Vinal Tech/Coginchaug 25, Rocky Hill 21: The Vinal Tech/Coginchaug football team found the best defense was a sound running game. The Hawks limited Rocky Hill to just four plays and three yards in the third quarter and just three first downs in the second half as they rallied to earn a 25-21 Nutmeg League victory at McVicar Field. The Hawks (3-3-1) scored a pair of second-half touchdowns to erase a 21-10 halftime deficit and snap a three-game losing streak. Rocky Hill QB Eric Fritz threw a pair of TD passes to Jeff Courneen.

NFA 27, Berlin 7:  Maryland-bound J.J. Justice scored 3 TDs and rushed for 64 yards as No. 6 NFA snapped Berlin's 17-game winning streak at Sage Park in Berlin Saturday night. Fullback James Capalbo (25-123) helped NFA control the contest. "They don't do anything fancy," Berlin coach Al Pelligrinelli told The Herald Press. "They just give it to that kid and let him run with it. There's a reason why they are where they are."

Farmington  42, N.W. Catholic 7: Nick Bliss rushed for a game-high 177 yards and 3 TDs on 19 carriers while QB Steve Harrington threw for a pair of TD passes as the Indians romped in West Hartford. "These guys are finally starting to understand that we can put points on the board," Farmington coach Jeff Bemis told The Herald Press. "We want to mix it up a little bit. We don't want to be a one-dimensional team where the other team knows we're running leads with our back all day long."

Enfield 29, Plainville 7: Enfield QB Pat Jubrey was 15-of-23 for 177 yards and a TD to lead the Raiders.

East Catholic 48, Fermi 24: Dahna Deleston rushed for 159 yards and 2 TDs on 12 carries as the Eagles (7-0) remained unbeaten. Joe Hartigan scored 4 TDs and rushed for 71 yards on nine carries.

Week 6
MIDDLETOWN, Oct. 18 -- Middletown QB Shamar Carr threw for 3 TDs and ran for 106 yards to lead Middletown to a stunning 33-11 win over Berlin at Middletown. Carr was 7-of-16 for 160 yards and had a 61-yard TD pass to Jashone Cunningham. Berlin had won 32 straight Nutmeg League games and had won 25 straight regular season games before the loss.

PLAINVILLE, Oct. 17 -- The difference was an extra point as the Indians prevailed. Chris Oaks converted a successful extra point kick with 10:39 left for NWC. Plainville cut the lead to one after Will Hungerford scored on a 4-yard run with 7:16 left but the Devils missed the extra point kick.

MIDDLETOWN, Oct. 17 -- Jesse Marrow ran for 2 TDs while Pat Jubrey was 13-of-19 for 200 yards for 99 yards to lead Enfield.

FARMINGTON, Oct. 17 -- Dahna Deleston scored 3 TDs and a game-high 93 yards on 22 carries as East Catholic (6-0) whipped host Farmington. The Eagles limited Farmington to just 162 yards of total offense, including a 82-yard TD run by Jim Fox. East QB Dan Belli was 5-of-11 for 154, 2 TDs and an interception.

Week 5
FARMINGTON, Oct. 10 -- Sean Gerhart broke an attempted tackle on the 10-yard line and rumbled into the end zone with 9.4 seconds left to lift Farmington to its second straight last-second victory Friday night. Trailing by two, sophomore QB Steve Harrington lofted a 48-yard pass down the middle of the field that Gerhart grabbed near the 15. Like so many of his Indian teammates Friday, he didn't go down after the first hit. "These kids want to score," said Farmington coach Jeff Bemis, after his Indians beat Middletown for the first time since 1999. "They'll do whatever it takes to get in there."

MANCHESTER, Oct. 11 -- Joe Hartigan scored 2 TDs and ran for 93 yards on 14 carries to lead the Eagles (5-0). East Catholic ran for over 300 yards, but it was a five-minute, three-score explosion through the air that put Rocky Hill away at Denny Carlin Memorial Field at Mount Nebo Park.

WEST HARTFORD, Oct. 11 -- Pat Jubrey threw 3 TD passes to lead the Raiders (4-1). Jeremy Kauffman caught scoring passes of 48 and 33 yards.

BERLIN, Oct. 10 -- Berlin quarterback P.J. Sanzo threw a pair of touchdown passes, the final one coming with one second left before intermission to give Berlin an insurmountable 15-point lead en route to a 35-6 Nutmeg League win. The Redcoats (5-0, 4-0 Nutmeg) won their 32nd straight Nutmeg contest and won its 25th straight regular season game. Berlin ran for 322 yards on the ground.

PLAINVILLE, Oct. 10 -- Will Hungerford scored two TDs in the last 20 seconds of regulation to lift Plainville past St. Paul/Goodwin Tech. On the last play from scrimmage, Hungerford picked off a pass and ran it in from 33 yards out, as time expired for the game-winning score. He tied the game on a 31-yard TD reception from Rob Lessard with 20 seconds left to tie the game. St. Paul's Juan Hernandez had a 92-yard kickoff return for the Falcons and a 66-yard TD reception.

Week 4
FARMINGTON, Oct. 3 -- Anthony Aniello caught a pass from quarterback Steve Harrington on a fourth and 4 play with 33 seconds left as Farmington rallied to beat Vinal Tech.

MIDDLETOWN, Oct. 4 -- Jashone Cunningham returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a TD and teammate Martavis Issac intercepted a Eric Fritz pass as the Dragons won for the first time this year. Hampton Watson (10-57) scored on a two-yard run following the Issac interception return and Middletown never looked back.

WEST HARTFORD, Oct. 4 -- Joel Hartunian picked off his 20th career pass and ran 16 yards into the end zone to give Berlin a commanding 12-point lead as the Redcoats remained unbeaten. Hartunian intercepted two passes.

PLAINVILLE, Oct. 3 -- South Windsor used a myriad of rushers to cruise to a 34-20 victory over Plainville Friday night at Alumni Field. South Windsor featured seven different ball carriers to compile 314 yards, helping to improve its record to 2-2.

BRISTOL, Oct. 4 -- Pat Jubrey ran for a touchdown and passed for three others as the Raiders (3-1) prevailed in a non-league game Saturday night at Muzzy Field. Jubrey finished with 130 yards passing. Jesse Marrow (14-137) and receiver Mike Dalenta (3-76, 2 TDs) led Enfield.

MIDDLETOWN, Sept. 26   Undefeated Vinal Tech/Coginchaug (2-0-1) prevailed when Todd Manjuck threw a 13-yard TD pass to Antonio Inglis with 1:28 remaining at Palmer Field.

ROCKY HILL, Sept. 26  -- Berlin's Sam Bocchia took the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown as the Redcoats won their 23rd straight regular season game and captured its 30th straight Nutmeg League victory. Joel Hartunian had a 72-yard TD pass reception and intercepted a Terrier pass.

FARMINGTON, Sept. 26 -- Montville (2-0) blocked two punts and returned one 55 yards for a touchdown as the visitors scored 14 points in a span of 2:04 midway through the third quarter to break open a scoreless game and earn the victory Friday night. Farmington (1-2) forced five Montville turnovers, recovering four fumbles and picking off a pass. "We were able to move the ball but we self destructed with penalties (10-69)," Farmington head coach Jeff Bemis said. "Our defense is playing good football. But our offense can't put it in the end zone. It's a breakdown here and there."

MANCHESTER, Sept. 27 -- Dan Belli threw for 2 TD passes for 102 yards and rushed for 84 yards as East Catholic/Cheney Tech (3-0) defeated Plainville. Joe Hartigan rushed for two touchdowns for East.

Week 2

PLAINVILLE, Sept. 20 -- Plainville forced seven second half turnovers and eight in the game as it fought its way back from a ten-point halftime defecit to earn a 16-10 victory over Middletown on Saturday night.

ENFIELD, Sept. 20  -- Joe Hartigan scored a pair of touchdowns, including an 18-yard run in the fourth quarter to lift East Catholic/Cheney past Enfield.

NORTH GROSVENORDALE, Sept. 20 -- Vinal Tech/Coginchaug earned its first win of the season with a shutout victory over Tourtellotte/Ellis Tech. Antonio Inglis had an 87-yard TD win for the winners. Utilizing a multi-shift, multi-motion offense, Vinal Tech (1-0-1) accumulated 345 yards of total offense behind a mostly dominant offensive line.

Enfield 22, Farmington 13: Jeremy Kauffman blocked 2 punts and ran both back for TDs as the Raiders topped Farmington. Kauffman also recovered a fumble. Enfield sacked Farmington QB Shamik Desai six times and limited the Indians' rushing game to minus 39 yards. Sean Garvey had a 42 and 43-yard field goals for FHS.

Rocky Hill 20, Plainville 7: Defensive tackle Nick Niro returned an interception 20 yards, recovered a fumble and had a sack as the Terriers topped Plainville. JoJo Rush led Rocky Hill with 78 yards on the ground.

Berlin 49, Maloney 12: Joel Hartunian, Laroche and Sam Boccia scored two touchdowns apiece to lead the Redcoats to a smashing 49-12 victory. QB P.J. Sanzo needed only six passes -- three to Hartunian and three to Boccia -- to shred the Spartans secondary for 208 yards and three touchdowns. Junior fullback Chris Laroche hit the holes like he was born to run, knifing through the middle for 155 yards and a pair of scores.

Avon 24, St. Paul/Goodwin 14: A.J. Brown and Matt Friedhoff scored in the fourth quarter as Avon erased a 14-3 deficit to win.

East Catholic/Cheney 42, NW Catholic 20: Dahna Delestone rushed for 185 yards and 3 TDs to lead East Catholic/Cheney.

FHS scored two touchdowns in the final 3:03 of the contest to break open a four-point contest. Plainville (2-8, 1-7 Nutmeg) led at halftime by a 6-3 score thanks to an 88-yard interception return by Dustin Chasse with 18 seconds left in the second quarter. The Blue Devils turned the ball over six times, twice on interceptions and four times on fumbles.

ROCKY HILL, Nov. 14 -- With QB Eric Fritz calling almost every play, Rocky Hill scored six times in the first half in a Senior Night victory over the Sports and Medical Sciences Academy on Friday night. Fritz threw four touchdowns to senior receiver Jeff Courneen in the first half, including three in the final three minutes of the first quarter. Chris Tyler added a 39-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for the Terriers.

MIDDLETOWN, Nov. 14 -- East Catholic/Cheney Tech moved within one win of a perfect regular season with a victory over the Hawks. East Catholic led 28-0 at halftime and had 328 yards off offense in the first half. Dahna Deleston ran for 112 yards on 12 carries and a TD. Joe Hartigan scored a pair of TDs.

MIDDLETOWN, Nov. 15 --The Dragons exploded for 26 points in the second half to outlast St. Paul/Goodwin Tech.

BERLIN, Nov. 15  -- Joel Hartunian had a 71-yard TD run for the home team but that was it as Enfield prevailed. Pat Jubrey ran for a 30 yard TD and threw a 23-yard TD pass to Mike Dalenta.

Week 9
WEST HARTFORD, Nov. 8 -- Rocky Hill forced five turnovers and used some big plays to snap a two-game losing streak and beat Northwest Catholic for the first time. Junior defensive end Chris Cozza had a game-high three sacks for 21 yards and blocked an attempted extra point. Perhaps his biggest play was tipping a pass from NWC's freshman QB Mike Bourdon into the hands of teammate Mark Fritz, who ran back the interception 60 yards for a touchdown. Fritz's run, the second-longest interception return for a TD in school history, iced the contest, giving Rocky Hill (3-5, 3-5) a 21-6 lead with 5:49 left in the game.

BRISTOL, Nov. 8 -- Farmington's Nick Bliss scored four TDs and rushed for 165 yards as the Indians shutout St. Paul Saturday afternoon at Muzzy Field. His longest TD run was a 53-yard scamper in the third quarter.

MIDDLETOWN, Nov. 8 -- Dhana Deleston ran for 194 yards and two touchdowns, Joe Hartigan added two more scores, and quarterback Dan Belli threw a TD pass to Bryan Williston for another as East Catholic/Cheney Tech dominated Middletown. "With as many skill players as they have -- Deleston, Williston, Hartigan -- that's probably the best combination of skill players this league has seen since Berlin when [Maurice] Humphrey was a sophomore [2000]," Middletown coach Eric Marszalek told The Herald Press.

BERLIN, Nov. 7 -- Strong running from Chris Laroche and Joel Hartunian helped Berlin snap a two-game losing streak. "We just ran the ball at them," Berlin coach Al Pelligrinelli told The New Britain Herald of the game's crucial drive. "We were up 19-7, and thought we had a little bit of breathing room. They came up, scored, and the momentum is shifted their way. And you had to do something to answer that." Hartunian rushed for 2 TDs, 90 yards on 12 carries.

Week 8
ROCKY HILL, Oct. 31 -- Pat Jubrey threw a pair of TD passes as Enfield held off pesky Rocky Hill on Halloween night. Jeff Courneen (11 receptions, 150 yards) caught a 30 TD pass from Eric Fritz with 1:40 left in regulation to tighten up the game. Rocky Hill recovered the onside kick at the Raider 38-yard line but Enfield (7-1) intercepted its fourth pass of the game to seal the win.

BERLIN, Nov. 1 -- Sean Gerhart provided some more fourth quarter magic for Farmington Saturday afternoon at Sage Park, returning a punt 70 yards as the Indians beat Berlin for the first time since 1999. Farmington has won four of its last five games while Berlin dropped its third straight. Twice, Berlin, which was missing seven starters, rallied from deficits of 14 points. Berlin's Joel Hartunian intercepted his 23rd career pass and scored 2 TDs, one on a 37-yard punt return.

Middletown 44, N.W. Catholic 30
WEST HARTFORD, Nov. 1 -- Jashone Cunningham scored 3 TDs and rushed for 114 yards as Middletown beat the Indians. Middletown led 37-0 and 44-8 before NWC scored three times in the final 12 minutes. Cunningham scored his first TD on a 69-yard scamper.

MANCHESTER, Nov. 1 -- Joe Hartigan rushed for 3 TDs and Bryan Williston had a 60-yard punt return to lead the undefeated Eagles (8-0).

Vinal Tech 34, Wright Tech 0
STAMFORD, Nov. 1 -- Five different players scored as Vinal Tech/Coginchaug shutout Wright Tech-Stamford. Todd Manjuck scored on a 50-yard run for the Hawks (4-3-1), who won for the second week in a row. 

Week 7
Vinal Tech/Coginchaug 25, Rocky Hill 21: The Vinal Tech/Coginchaug football team found the best defense was a sound running game. The Hawks limited Rocky Hill to just four plays and three yards in the third quarter and just three first downs in the second half as they rallied to earn a 25-21 Nutmeg League victory at McVicar Field. The Hawks (3-3-1) scored a pair of second-half touchdowns to erase a 21-10 halftime deficit and snap a three-game losing streak. Rocky Hill QB Eric Fritz threw a pair of TD passes to Jeff Courneen.

NFA 27, Berlin 7:  Maryland-bound J.J. Justice scored 3 TDs and rushed for 64 yards as No. 6 NFA snapped Berlin's 17-game winning streak at Sage Park in Berlin Saturday night. Fullback James Capalbo (25-123) helped NFA control the contest. "They don't do anything fancy," Berlin coach Al Pelligrinelli told The Herald Press. "They just give it to that kid and let him run with it. There's a reason why they are where they are."

Farmington  42, N.W. Catholic 7: Nick Bliss rushed for a game-high 177 yards and 3 TDs on 19 carriers while QB Steve Harrington threw for a pair of TD passes as the Indians romped in West Hartford. "These guys are finally starting to understand that we can put points on the board," Farmington coach Jeff Bemis told The Herald Press. "We want to mix it up a little bit. We don't want to be a one-dimensional team where the other team knows we're running leads with our back all day long."

Enfield 29, Plainville 7: Enfield QB Pat Jubrey was 15-of-23 for 177 yards and a TD to lead the Raiders.

East Catholic 48, Fermi 24: Dahna Deleston rushed for 159 yards and 2 TDs on 12 carries as the Eagles (7-0) remained unbeaten. Joe Hartigan scored 4 TDs and rushed for 71 yards on nine carries.

Week 6
MIDDLETOWN, Oct. 18 -- Middletown QB Shamar Carr threw for 3 TDs and ran for 106 yards to lead Middletown to a stunning 33-11 win over Berlin at Middletown. Carr was 7-of-16 for 160 yards and had a 61-yard TD pass to Jashone Cunningham. Berlin had won 32 straight Nutmeg League games and had won 25 straight regular season games before the loss.

PLAINVILLE, Oct. 17 -- The difference was an extra point as the Indians prevailed. Chris Oaks converted a successful extra point kick with 10:39 left for NWC. Plainville cut the lead to one after Will Hungerford scored on a 4-yard run with 7:16 left but the Devils missed the extra point kick.

MIDDLETOWN, Oct. 17 -- Jesse Marrow ran for 2 TDs while Pat Jubrey was 13-of-19 for 200 yards for 99 yards to lead Enfield.

FARMINGTON, Oct. 17 -- Dahna Deleston scored 3 TDs and a game-high 93 yards on 22 carries as East Catholic (6-0) whipped host Farmington. The Eagles limited Farmington to just 162 yards of total offense, including a 82-yard TD run by Jim Fox. East QB Dan Belli was 5-of-11 for 154, 2 TDs and an interception.

Week 5
FARMINGTON, Oct. 10 -- Sean Gerhart broke an attempted tackle on the 10-yard line and rumbled into the end zone with 9.4 seconds left to lift Farmington to its second straight last-second victory Friday night. Trailing by two, sophomore QB Steve Harrington lofted a 48-yard pass down the middle of the field that Gerhart grabbed near the 15. Like so many of his Indian teammates Friday, he didn't go down after the first hit. "These kids want to score," said Farmington coach Jeff Bemis, after his Indians beat Middletown for the first time since 1999. "They'll do whatever it takes to get in there."

MANCHESTER, Oct. 11 -- Joe Hartigan scored 2 TDs and ran for 93 yards on 14 carries to lead the Eagles (5-0). East Catholic ran for over 300 yards, but it was a five-minute, three-score explosion through the air that put Rocky Hill away at Denny Carlin Memorial Field at Mount Nebo Park.

WEST HARTFORD, Oct. 11 -- Pat Jubrey threw 3 TD passes to lead the Raiders (4-1). Jeremy Kauffman caught scoring passes of 48 and 33 yards.

BERLIN, Oct. 10 -- Berlin quarterback P.J. Sanzo threw a pair of touchdown passes, the final one coming with one second left before intermission to give Berlin an insurmountable 15-point lead en route to a 35-6 Nutmeg League win. The Redcoats (5-0, 4-0 Nutmeg) won their 32nd straight Nutmeg contest and won its 25th straight regular season game. Berlin ran for 322 yards on the ground.

PLAINVILLE, Oct. 10 -- Will Hungerford scored two TDs in the last 20 seconds of regulation to lift Plainville past St. Paul/Goodwin Tech. On the last play from scrimmage, Hungerford picked off a pass and ran it in from 33 yards out, as time expired for the game-winning score. He tied the game on a 31-yard TD reception from Rob Lessard with 20 seconds left to tie the game. St. Paul's Juan Hernandez had a 92-yard kickoff return for the Falcons and a 66-yard TD reception.

Week 4
FARMINGTON, Oct. 3 -- Anthony Aniello caught a pass from quarterback Steve Harrington on a fourth and 4 play with 33 seconds left as Farmington rallied to beat Vinal Tech.

MIDDLETOWN, Oct. 4 -- Jashone Cunningham returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a TD and teammate Martavis Issac intercepted a Eric Fritz pass as the Dragons won for the first time this year. Hampton Watson (10-57) scored on a two-yard run following the Issac interception return and Middletown never looked back.

WEST HARTFORD, Oct. 4 -- Joel Hartunian picked off his 20th career pass and ran 16 yards into the end zone to give Berlin a commanding 12-point lead as the Redcoats remained unbeaten. Hartunian intercepted two passes.

PLAINVILLE, Oct. 3 -- South Windsor used a myriad of rushers to cruise to a 34-20 victory over Plainville Friday night at Alumni Field. South Windsor featured seven different ball carriers to compile 314 yards, helping to improve its record to 2-2.

BRISTOL, Oct. 4 -- Pat Jubrey ran for a touchdown and passed for three others as the Raiders (3-1) prevailed in a non-league game Saturday night at Muzzy Field. Jubrey finished with 130 yards passing. Jesse Marrow (14-137) and receiver Mike Dalenta (3-76, 2 TDs) led Enfield.

MIDDLETOWN, Sept. 26   Undefeated Vinal Tech/Coginchaug (2-0-1) prevailed when Todd Manjuck threw a 13-yard TD pass to Antonio Inglis with 1:28 remaining at Palmer Field.

ROCKY HILL, Sept. 26  -- Berlin's Sam Bocchia took the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown as the Redcoats won their 23rd straight regular season game and captured its 30th straight Nutmeg League victory. Joel Hartunian had a 72-yard TD pass reception and intercepted a Terrier pass.

FARMINGTON, Sept. 26 -- Montville (2-0) blocked two punts and returned one 55 yards for a touchdown as the visitors scored 14 points in a span of 2:04 midway through the third quarter to break open a scoreless game and earn the victory Friday night. Farmington (1-2) forced five Montville turnovers, recovering four fumbles and picking off a pass. "We were able to move the ball but we self destructed with penalties (10-69)," Farmington head coach Jeff Bemis said. "Our defense is playing good football. But our offense can't put it in the end zone. It's a breakdown here and there."

MANCHESTER, Sept. 27 -- Dan Belli threw for 2 TD passes for 102 yards and rushed for 84 yards as East Catholic/Cheney Tech (3-0) defeated Plainville. Joe Hartigan rushed for two touchdowns for East.

Week 2

PLAINVILLE, Sept. 20 -- Plainville forced seven second half turnovers and eight in the game as it fought its way back from a ten-point halftime defecit to earn a 16-10 victory over Middletown on Saturday night.

ENFIELD, Sept. 20  -- Joe Hartigan scored a pair of touchdowns, including an 18-yard run in the fourth quarter to lift East Catholic/Cheney past Enfield.

NORTH GROSVENORDALE, Sept. 20 -- Vinal Tech/Coginchaug earned its first win of the season with a shutout victory over Tourtellotte/Ellis Tech. Antonio Inglis had an 87-yard TD win for the winners. Utilizing a multi-shift, multi-motion offense, Vinal Tech (1-0-1) accumulated 345 yards of total offense behind a mostly dominant offensive line.

Enfield 22, Farmington 13: Jeremy Kauffman blocked 2 punts and ran both back for TDs as the Raiders topped Farmington. Kauffman also recovered a fumble. Enfield sacked Farmington QB Shamik Desai six times and limited the Indians' rushing game to minus 39 yards. Sean Garvey had a 42 and 43-yard field goals for FHS.

Rocky Hill 20, Plainville 7: Defensive tackle Nick Niro returned an interception 20 yards, recovered a fumble and had a sack as the Terriers topped Plainville. JoJo Rush led Rocky Hill with 78 yards on the ground.

Berlin 49, Maloney 12: Joel Hartunian, Laroche and Sam Boccia scored two touchdowns apiece to lead the Redcoats to a smashing 49-12 victory. QB P.J. Sanzo needed only six passes -- three to Hartunian and three to Boccia -- to shred the Spartans secondary for 208 yards and three touchdowns. Junior fullback Chris Laroche hit the holes like he was born to run, knifing through the middle for 155 yards and a pair of scores.

Avon 24, St. Paul/Goodwin 14: A.J. Brown and Matt Friedhoff scored in the fourth quarter as Avon erased a 14-3 deficit to win.
